Phase-One

Our Pet Project

With a phased approach, we would like to help existing organizations to achieve their goals in supporting our pet population.

The first phase is to assist in curbing the number of lost and stolen pets who don't make it back to their family. More than 10 million dogs and cats are separated from their family each year and an alarming number are never to be returned. One in three cats and dogs will be separated from their families at least once during their lifetime.

Our first goal is to help families microchip their pets so that if they do get lost or stolen, we can help their families recover their pets. Whether people fail to microchip their pets because of cost or inconvenience, we intend to remove both of these barriers by making this a free service provided by C3.

If  you are in need of a microchip, or if you would like to have your pet scanned to check their chip and your registration information, please use the form below and we will get back to you ASAP.

The number one reason for euthanasia by shelters is overcrowding. Imagine if we could reduce the shelter population by 25% with one responsible act. That act is microchipping our pet population. One quarter of all animals confiscated and surrendered to The Animal Foundation in May 2024 were lost pets who were eventually returned to their families. Add that to the number who never made it back home and you have a large percentage of the population who don't need to be in our shelters in the first place.

How does microchipping help our community?

  • Increase the capacity of our shelters by streamlining the return of lost pets
  • Possibly avoid shelter time altogether
  • Bring your pet home faster, safer, and with less trauma
  • Microchipped pet populations make unauthorized breeding (puppy mills) more difficult to operate and easier to identify and punish
  • One third of all cats and dogs will be lost at least once in their lifetime. Microchips bring pets home where they belong!

By becoming a Microchip Sponsor you help C3 take the hassle out of microchipping our pet population. In partnership with other local organizations, C3 will use your donation to host events, launch campaigns, and to raise awareness of the need and availability of microchipping.

Why chip your pet?

The overwhelming number of pets recovered by shelters, animal control, veterinarians, and hospitals and returned home are as a result of a positive microchip scan. The following are reasons to microchip your pet;

  • Increase the chance for a speedy recovery
  • Proof of ownership
  • Microchipped cats are 20 times more likely to be returned
  • Dogs with microchips are 2½ times more likely to be returned
  • More reliable than tags and / or collars
